Although both YoVille and PetVille are social games with virtual items, currencies and environments, YoVille players have made it clear to Zynga that there is a difference. In YoVille, the main characters are the players themselves, whereas in PetVille, the main characters are the players' pets.
In other words, in PetVille there is an indirect relation between the gamer and the avatar. PetVille avatars are characters owned by the gamer. In YoVille there is a direct relation between the gamer and the avatar. YoVille avatars are virtual versions of players or whatever players want to look like.
There is no doubt that dedicated PetVille players were upset when their game was shut down. However, when Zynga announced the end of YoVille, players felt that this was an attack on their avatars, the virtual version of what they are or what they spent time and money to look like.
